FAQs

Bus Transportation

Is my child eligible for school bus transportation?

Busing is provided to

  • High school students living further than 2.0 km
  • Elementary students living further than 1.6 km
  • Kindergarten students (K4 or K5) living further than .8 km

Where do we find our child's bus stop & time?

Status? It’s complicated!

We are in the process of changing our transportation management software. Once the new system is up and running, all busing information will be available through your Parent Portal account. New to NFSB? Click here to set up your Parent Portal account. Stay tuned!

How can I find the school we are zoned for?

Visit our School Zones page! We have maps with our elementary school zones, or our “school locator” that you can use with your address.

We’re moving, but staying in the same school zone.

Contact your child’s school – they’ll let our Transportation Department know. We will be in touch to iron out details. Note that we can’t provide transportation from outside of your school zone.

We live out of the zone for our school, can we have bus transportation?

You can request a Special Accommodation for transportation.

Download the Special Accommodation request form in the FORMS section on this page.

Requests are approved if there is room on the bus. Please note that existing bus routes can’t be changed to accommodate out-of-zone addresses.

We live in the walking zone of our school, can we have busing?

You can request a Special Accommodation for transportation. These requests can only be approved if there is room on the bus. Please note that existing bus routes can’t be changed.

Download the Special Accommodation request form in the FORMS section on this page.

We would prefer a different bus stop – what can we do?

Perhaps you would prefer a different corner as your bus stop? We can’t always accommodate bus stop changes, but we try!

Download the Bus Stop Change Request form in the FORMS section on this page. Complete and return it to your school. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We have a shared custody arrangement, can our child have school bus transportation to two addresses?

If mom and dad live in the same school zone, a request can be made for transportation to both homes.

Download the Additional Stop – Shared Custody request form in the FORMS section on this page.

Complete and return to your school secretary. We’ll let you know as soon as possible.

For most of our students, bus stops and times remain the same, within 10 minutes, from year-to-year. We will be in touch if your child is taking the bus for the first time, or if your route or scheduled time, changes.

Special Accommodations

  • Transportation may be provided for students who live within the walking zone, are out-of-zone, have a medical condition, or for students who have an alternate address for babysitting or shared-custody. The second address must be for five days a week, morning or afternoon. A Special Accommodation Request form must be completed each year.
  • Special accommodations cannot create new stops or detours, and are based on seat availability.
  • To be considered for transport on the first day of school, requests and full payment must be received by the last day of school in June. We will advise you by mid-July if we are able to accommodate your request.
  • Requests received after the last day of school in June through to September 30 will be considered for transport after October 15. Payable in one or two installments (end of September and end of January).

Special Accommodations – Cost

One child
$200/year
Second child*
$150/year
Additional children*
$100/year
Short-term accommodation**

Some notes  🙂

  • As per Quebec’s Highway Code large items such as sports equipment, musical instruments, sleds, school projects, etc. are prohibited on the bus.
  • Animals are not permitted on a school bus.
  • We cannot provide door-to-door service, however, bus stops are established giving consideration to our youngest students.
  • Elementary and high school students may be transported on the same bus.
  • Students may have to transfer buses. In these cases students wait on the bus, or in a board-designated shelter, until their transfer bus arrives.
  • Riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right.
  • The school bus is an extension of the school; all school and school bus safety rules apply. Our bus drivers are trained professionals and their authority must be respected.
  • If a student misbehaves on the bus, a bus report will be filed by the driver. This report is reviewed by school administration and a copy is sent home with the child. The report must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the school the next school day.
